Health Ingredients Japan was launched in 1998 as the core component of the International Food Design Show that had been held annually in Tokyo since 1989. It is now the leading food ingredients exhibition in Asia by far, and it continues to display increasing (see chart) every year. At Hi Japan 2008, a total of over 580 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions met with almost 42,000 buyers from the industry. At Hi Japan 2009, we are planning to have over 600 exhibitors with 1000 booths at Tokyo Big Sight East Hall 1, 2, 3. Co-located alongside Hi Japan is the S-tec Japan exhibition. S-tec Japan is the ONLY exhibition for food safety and quality control in Japan. These parallel events provide a one-step source of information on food safety and health functions, and attract all the professionals from the food industry to one location.

Hi Japan is now established as a global event with international participation in the show.
This year the number of international exhibitors increased and the feedback was that they were surprised by the high level of enquiries from visitors. Hi Japan 2008 featured seven national pavilions from the USA, Canada, Finland, China, Korea, Taiwan and New Zealand, and there were a total of 100 international companies. The number of overseas exhibitors has increased by 10% compared with the last edition, and they account for 20% of total exhibitors.
